走下舞臺
畫畫，不是臨時起意的斜槓。
河智苑小時候就愛畫畫，也喜歡拆解家裏的小電器再裝回去，不爲修理，只是想弄清楚內部如何運作。
後來她發現，演戲與畫畫其實都在做同一件事：試着理解世界，從中找到自己的位置。
真正開始頻繁創作，大約是在十年前。畫作一開始只是掛在公司牆上，無意間被策展機構注意到，才逐漸走入藝術圈視野。隨後，她與海外藝術家共同成立藝術品牌Art Space Polarpo，舉辦不同類型的展覽。
談到演員與藝術創作者的差別，她笑着說，這兩件事很不一樣。

她形容，演戲是集體創作，畫畫則是隻身承擔所有重量，過程極其孤獨。當作品被收藏，她雙手在空中比劃一個“送出去”的動作。
“雖然我沒生過孩子，但這就像把親生骨肉交託給別人。”說完，她像個孩子般笑到趴在桌上，打趣問我這比喻是不是太奇怪？
回望能量
2021年的《Super Cow》系列，是河智苑藝術之路的正式起點。靈感來自疫情時期對世界的觀察與感受。這組作品偏向半抽象，以油彩與丙烯爲主要媒介，畫風原始，不刻意追求技巧。
雖被調侃像小孩塗鴉，卻有一種在困境中求生的力量。這種直白的生命力引起共鳴，作品在短時間內全數被收藏。
從2023年舉行首場個人畫展，到隔年KIAF藝術博覽會，作品都在兩天內售罄。這些戰績宣告了她的成功轉型，但她更在意心境的轉變。
“過去，我只把自己看成舞臺上的河智苑。拿起畫筆之後，我彷彿走下了舞臺，嘗試着重新去認識世界，也重新審視自己。”
她開始認真思考，自己與周遭的關係，無論是與母親、朋友，還是與整個社會，不斷地回到了最根本的問題：我是誰？我爲什麼會走上這條路？
看似沉重的自省，沒想到反而讓她找回快樂。
她深信回望的力量。不是帶着後悔的否定，而是通過梳理走過的路，從中提煉能量。比起年輕時的隨性，現在的她更有責任感。
“無論是演戲還是畫畫，本質上都是在與世界對話。如果我做的小事能讓世界變好，我希望能參與其中。”
根根本本
今年，河智苑全力迴歸戲劇主戰場。預計3月開播的新作《Climax》，搭檔朱智勳，題材現實，聚焦權力博弈與人性拉扯。她飾演被名利慾望吞噬的過氣女明星。
問她現在如何看待名氣和慾望，她先用英語笑着抗議“Oh,it’s too hard”（這題太難了）。隨後認真解釋，現在的她把名氣當做結果，而非目標。
“慾望人皆有之。但每當它出現的時候，我會習慣性地問自己：我爲什麼想要這個？這個念頭究竟從哪裏來？”
她不再執着輸贏，心態佛系，更在意過程。從早期張力十足的角色，到近年《巧克力》、《謝幕：樹立而死》這些內斂卻深刻的小品，她選擇作品的標準，回到了人性的本質。
這些年她的生活極簡——運動、畫畫，待在自己的空間裏。常常在社媒分享畫室，有時開心得像個孩子。 運動不再只是爲了出鏡，而是爲了活着。爬山、游泳、高爾夫；曬太陽，流汗，感受肌肉的重量，也享受大自然的慢活節奏。
她把“照顧自己”這件事做得很具體。這幾年深入研究保養，與姐姐創立美容品牌Pouch24，不走花哨路線，而是主打簡單有效的護膚哲學。
“品牌核心從來不是變漂亮，而是變健康。解決了根本問題，其他煩惱都會迎刃而解。不須要做很多事，把最重要的那件事做好就夠了。”
不求多，只求對。追求本質的人生哲學，在這裏再次出現。
凍齡武器
河智苑是圈內有名的大慈善家，捐款、義賣、送書、長期投入公益。
多年前她說過，想把粉絲給她的愛再傳出去。
這種價值觀，沒有因爲人生轉彎而改變。 只是現在，她的生活裏還多了一樣很重要的東西：檸檬。 她出了名愛吃檸檬，曾在節目中公開自家冰箱，裏面堆滿了檸檬；也曾打趣說檸檬是凍齡祕密武器，咀嚼時表情收緊，自帶天然拉提的效果。
談到檸檬，她笑得更開心了。
“人生就像檸檬，第一口咬下去的時候，酸味強烈，甚至帶點刺激，但那股衝擊感終究會過去。最初的酸，就像人生的困境，時間會幫你消化，最後留下來的，是一種自在。”
她說這段話時，眼裏有光。曾經刺骨的痛，最後變成了最解膩的滋味。

무대 아래에서
그림은 단순한 부업이 아니다.
하지원은 어릴 적부터 그림을 좋아했다. 집의 작은 전자기기를 분해했다가 다시 조립하기도 했다. 고치려는 게 아니라, 내부가 어떻게 작동하는지 알고 싶어서였다.
그녀는 나중에 깨달았다. 연기와 그림은 결국 같은 일을 하고 있다는 것을. 세상을 이해하려 하고, 그 속에서 자신의 자리를 찾는 일.
본격적으로 창작을 시작한 건 약 10년 전이다. 처음에는 회사 벽에 걸린 그림이 우연히 기획자 눈에 띄어, 점차 예술계에 알려졌다. 이후 해외 아티스트들과 함께 Art Space Polarpo라는 브랜드를 세우고 다양한 전시를 열었다.
배우와 예술가의 차이를 묻자, 그녀는 웃으며 말했다.
“배우는 완전히 다른 영혼 속으로 들어가 감정을 정확히 전달해야 해요. 공감이 생기는 순간, 성취감은 엄청나죠. 하지만 그림은 전혀 달라요. 정해진 역할도 없고, 누구를 연기할 필요도 없어요. 캔버스 앞에는 오직 나와 가장 진솔한 생각뿐이죠.”
그녀는 연기를 ‘집단 창작’이라 표현했고, 그림은 모든 무게를 홀로 감당하는 ‘고독한 과정’이라 했다. 작품이 소장될 때면, 두 손으로 ‘내어주는’ 제스처를 했다.
되돌아봄의 에너지
2021년 《Super Cow》 시리즈는 하지원의 예술 여정의 본격적인 시작이었다. 팬데믹 시기에 세상을 바라보며 느낀 감각에서 영감을 얻은 작품이다. 반추상에 가까운 그림들은 유화와 아크릴을 주 매체로 삼았고, 기교를 의도적으로 추구하지 않은 원초적인 화풍을 보여주었다.
아이의 낙서 같다는 농담을 듣기도 했지만, 그 안에는 어려움 속에서 살아남으려는 힘이 담겨 있었다. 그 솔직한 생명력은 사람들의 공감을 불러일으켰고, 작품은 짧은 시간 안에 모두 소장되었다.
2023년 첫 개인전을 시작으로, 이듬해 KIAF 아트페어에서도 작품은 이틀 만에 완판되었다. 성과는 그녀의 성공적인 변신을 알렸지만, 하지원은 무엇보다 마음가짐의 변화를 더 중요하게 여겼다.
“예전에는 무대 위의 하지원으로만 나를 생각했어요. 하지만 붓을 들고 나서는 무대에서 내려와, 세상을 새롭게 이해하고 나 자신을 다시 바라보려는 느낌이었죠.”
그녀는 어머니, 친구, 사회와의 관계를 진지하게 고민하며 끊임없이 근본적인 질문으로 돌아갔다. 나는 누구인가? 왜 이 길을 걷고 있는가?
겉으로는 무거워 보이는 자기 성찰이었지만, 뜻밖에도 그녀에게 다시 즐거움을 가져다주었다.
하지원은 “되돌아봄의 힘”을 믿는다. 그것은 후회가 담긴 부정이 아니라, 걸어온 길을 정리하며 그 속에서 에너지를 추출하는 일이다. 젊을 때의 자유로움보다 지금은 더 큰 책임감을 지니고 있다.
“연기든 그림이든 결국은 세상과의 대화예요. 내가 하는 작은 일이 세상을 더 좋게 만들 수 있다면, 그 안에 참여하고 싶어요.”
근본으로
올해 하지원은 드라마의 본무대로 완전히 돌아온다. 3월 방영 예정인 신작 〈Climax〉에서 주지훈과 호흡을 맞추며, 현실적인 소재로 권력 다툼과 인간성의 갈등을 그린다. 그녀는 명예와 욕망에 삼켜진 한물간 여배우를 연기한다.
지금 그녀가 명성과 욕망을 어떻게 바라보는지 묻자, 하지원은 먼저 영어로 웃으며 “Oh, it’s too hard(너무 어려운 질문이에요)”라고 답했다. 이어 진지하게 설명했다. 지금의 그녀는 명성을 목표가 아닌 결과로 본다고.
“욕망은 누구에게나 있어요. 하지만 그것이 나타날 때마다 나는 습관처럼 스스로에게 묻죠. 왜 이걸 원하는 걸까? 그 생각은 어디서 비롯된 걸까?”
이제 그녀는 승패에 집착하지 않는다. 마음은 한결 여유로워졌고, 과정에 더 집중한다. 초창기의 긴장감 넘치는 역할에서, 최근의 〈초콜릿〉, 〈커튼콜: 나무에 서서 죽다〉 같은 내면적이고 깊이 있는 작품까지, 그녀가 작품을 고르는 기준은 인간성의 본질로 돌아왔다.
최근 몇 년간 그녀의 삶은 단순하다. 운동, 그림, 그리고 자신의 공간에서 보내는 시간. 종종 SNS에 화실을 공유하며, 때로는 아이처럼 즐겁게 웃는다. 운동은 더 이상 화면에 나오기 위한 것이 아니라 살아가기 위한 것이다. 등산, 수영, 골프, 햇볕을 쬐고 땀을 흘리며 근육의 무게를 느끼고, 자연의 느린 리듬을 즐긴다.
그녀는 “자기 관리”를 아주 구체적으로 실천한다. 최근 몇 년간 피부 관리 연구에 몰두하며, 언니와 함께 뷰티 브랜드 ‘Pouch24’를 세웠다. 화려함 대신 단순하고 효과적인 스킨케어 철학을 내세운다.
“브랜드의 핵심은 예뻐지는 게 아니라 건강해지는 거예요. 근본적인 문제를 해결하면 다른 고민은 자연스럽게 풀리죠. 많은 일을 할 필요는 없어요. 가장 중요한 일을 제대로 하면 충분해요.”
많음을 추구하지 않고, 옳음을 추구한다. 여기서도 그녀의 ‘본질을 향한 삶의 철학’이 다시 드러난다.
동안의 무기
하지원은 업계에서 잘 알려진 자선가다. 기부, 바자회, 책 나눔, 그리고 꾸준한 공익 활동까지 오랫동안 이어왔다.
몇 년 전 그녀는 “팬들이 준 사랑을 다시 세상에 전하고 싶다”고 말한 적이 있다.
그 가치관은 인생의 방향이 바뀌어도 변하지 않았다. 다만 지금 그녀의 삶에는 아주 중요한 것이 하나 더 생겼다. 바로 레몬이다. 하지원은 레몬을 유난히 좋아하는 것으로 유명하다. 방송에서 집 냉장고를 공개했을 때, 안에는 레몬이 가득 차 있었다. 그녀는 농담처럼 “레몬은 동안의 비밀 무기예요. 씹을 때 표정이 당겨져 자연스러운 리프팅 효과가 있죠”라고 말하기도 했다.
레몬 이야기가 나오자 그녀는 더 크게 웃었다.
“인생은 레몬 같아요. 첫 입을 베어 물면 강한 산미가 몰려오고, 때로는 자극적이지만 그 충격은 결국 지나가요. 처음의 신맛은 인생의 어려움과 같고, 시간이 그것을 소화해주죠. 마지막에 남는 건 편안함이에요.”
그 말을 하는 순간, 그녀의 눈빛은 빛나고 있었다. 한때 뼈에 사무쳤던 고통이 이제는 가장 산뜻한 맛으로 변해 있었다.

Stepping Off the Stage
Painting was never just a side hustle.
As a child, Ha Ji-won loved to draw. She also enjoyed taking apart small appliances at home and putting them back together—not to fix them, but simply to understand how they worked inside.
Later, she realized that acting and painting were really about the same thing: trying to make sense of the world and finding her own place within it.
She began creating more frequently about ten years ago. At first, her paintings were simply hung on the office walls. By chance, they caught the eye of a curatorial group, and gradually her work entered the art world’s view. Since then, she has co-founded the art brand Art Space Polarpo with international artists, staging exhibitions of many different kinds.
When asked about the difference between being an actor and being an artist, she laughed: “They’re completely different.”
“As an actor, you have to fully enter another soul and deliver emotions with precision. The moment of resonance brings enormous fulfillment. Painting is entirely different—there’s no set role, no one to portray. In front of the canvas, it’s just you and your most honest thoughts.”
She describes acting as collective creation, while painting is bearing all the weight alone. The process, she says, is profoundly solitary. When a work is collected, she gestures with her hands as if sending something away.
“Though I’ve never had children, it feels like entrusting my own flesh and blood to someone else.” Then she bursts into laughter, collapsing onto the table like a child, teasing me: “Is that metaphor too strange?”
The Power of Looking Back
Ha Ji-won’s Super Cow series in 2021 marked the formal beginning of her artistic journey. The inspiration came from her observations and feelings about the world during the pandemic. The works leaned toward semi-abstract, using oil and acrylic as the main mediums. The style was raw, deliberately unconcerned with technique.
Though teased as resembling children’s doodles, they carried a force of survival amid hardship. That straightforward vitality resonated, and the works were all collected in a short time.
From her first solo exhibition in 2023 to the following year’s KIAF Art Fair, her works sold out within two days. These achievements announced her successful transformation, but what mattered more to her was the shift in mindset.
“In the past, I only saw myself as Ha Ji-won on stage. After picking up the paintbrush, I felt as if I had stepped off the stage, trying to rediscover the world and re-examine myself.”
She began to seriously reflect on her relationships—with her mother, friends, and society at large—returning again and again to the fundamental questions: Who am I? Why did I take this path?
What seemed like heavy self-examination unexpectedly brought her back to joy.
She deeply believes in the power of looking back. Not as regretful denial, but as a way to sort through the path she has walked and distill energy from it. Compared to the spontaneity of youth, she now carries a greater sense of responsibility.
“Whether acting or painting, at its core it is a dialogue with the world. If the small things I do can make the world better, I want to be part of it.”
Back to the Essentials
This year, Ha Ji-won is making a full return to the drama stage. Her new work Climax, scheduled to premiere in March, pairs her with Ju Ji-hoon. The story is grounded in reality, focusing on struggles for power and the tug-of-war of human nature. She plays a faded actress consumed by fame and desire.
When asked how she views fame and desire now, she first laughed and protested in English, “Oh, it’s too hard.” Then she explained seriously that she now sees fame as a result, not a goal.
“Desire is something everyone has. But whenever it arises, I habitually ask myself: Why do I want this? Where does this thought come from?”
She no longer clings to winning or losing, adopting a more Buddhist mindset, caring more about the process. From her early, tension-filled roles to recent works like Chocolate and Curtain Call: Tree Standing to Die, her criteria for choosing projects have returned to the essence of humanity.
In recent years, her life has been minimalist—exercise, painting, staying in her own space. She often shares her studio on social media, sometimes laughing like a child. Exercise is no longer for appearances, but for living. Hiking, swimming, golf; basking in the sun, sweating, feeling the weight of her muscles, and enjoying the slow rhythm of nature.
She has made “taking care of herself” something very concrete. In recent years, she has delved deeply into skincare, co-founding the beauty brand Pouch24 with her sister. Rather than flashy routes, it emphasizes a philosophy of simple and effective care.
“The core of the brand has never been about becoming prettier, but about becoming healthier. Once the fundamental issues are solved, other worries resolve themselves. You don’t need to do many things—just do the most important one well.”
Not seeking more, but seeking what is right. Here again, her life philosophy of pursuing essence comes to the fore.
The Secret Weapon of Agelessness
Ha Ji-won is well known in the industry as a philanthropist, actively engaged in donations, charity sales, book-giving, and long-term public service.
Years ago, she said she wanted to pass on the love she received from her fans to others.
This value has not changed, even as her life has taken different turns. But now, there is one more important element in her daily life: lemons. She is famous for loving lemons, once revealing a refrigerator packed full of them on a TV show. She even joked that lemons are her secret weapon against aging—when chewing them, her facial muscles tighten, creating a natural lifting effect.
Talking about lemons made her laugh even more brightly.
“Life is like a lemon. The first bite is intensely sour, even a little shocking, but that impact eventually fades. The initial sourness is like life’s hardships—time helps you digest them, and what remains in the end is a sense of ease.”
Her eyes sparkled as she said this. What was once piercing pain has transformed into the most refreshing taste.
